If you are playing Call of Duty 4 on Windows 8,
and you encountered following error :
iw3mp.exe has stopped working , this is how you can fix it.
First, go to Control Panel, Sound, and then click on recording tab.
When in recording tab, right click and mark "show disabled devices".
There you should see "stereo mix" ,
just enable it and go play Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare.
This doesn't fix it you dud

Deleteif this does not work, try right click on your cod4 mp exe and enable compatibility mode with windows 7, also, run it as administrator.
ReplyDeletethat should be fine :D
That not helping too :(
ReplyDeleteDon't know why.
ReplyDeleteIt should work.
It is working on my PC.
Did you updated PB manually ?
I updated it manually and added COD4 to the games list.
yes i did that.
Deletesomethimes i can play around one hour and then it crashes.
Deletei described all that i did, and it fixed the problem for me.
DeleteRandom crashes after one hour-that sounds like overheating problem. Do you monitor your temperatures ?
No. I think my problem is because of d3d9.dll
Deletecould be that too.try reinstall / manual update of DirectX
Deletewhen i try to install directx i get an error.it say : An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine problem.
DeleteWHAT I NEED TO DO??
for directx install you should visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113
DeleteStereo mix doesn't show up for me
ReplyDeletewhich Os do you have installed ?
DeleteIf it does not show up, right click on empty space and
mark "show disabled devices" thet it should appear.
Doesn't work for me either. Enabled stereo mix, reinstalled PB several times, allowed PB and COD in my firewall options, but it still keeps crashing on me. Sometimes it wont happen for 30+ minutes, other times it happens within 5 mins. It's annoying the hell out of me.
ReplyDeletewhen you reinstall PB, did you updated it manually and added COD4 in the games list ?
DeleteYep, at this point I'm just sticking to servers that don't have punkbuster enabled. It's the only fix I've found so far.
Deletedon't know why mate, i don't have any issues with the game, works perfect now.maybe it's some other software running in background causing problems with PB on your computer ?
DeleteDoesn't work.
ReplyDeleteI could use some more information about system specification,
Deleteintervals of crashes, do you have problems playing other games ?
I just got a new pc with windows 8 on it, instantly installed cod4 and I crash too with this solution.
Deleteits not pb problem then, something other is crashing your game, it can be a lot of things.
Deletei assure you that this solution fixed PB problem on my computer.
maybe you have some other apps in background that causing crashes.
this doesn't work
ReplyDeleteyoure doing it wrong then....
DeleteOMG !!!! Thank you Dude this is awesomeeee
ReplyDeleteworks perfect :D

ReplyDeletehi guys i am facing the same issue. I have also tried this but no luck. What i want to ask you is "Have you run clean install of win-8?". Because i have read it somewhere that it only works on clean windows 8 install. Any suggestions please do let me know.
ReplyDeletei updated win7 to w8 and it worked for me.
Deletei have run a clean install also.. still facing the same problem :(
DeleteBut today i was able to play the game for 1hr at a stretch. After that crashing exe again after some odd 2 to 5 mins.
Hope some fixed solution will come up in coming days.
Official support is stop by activision so nothing will come from their...
PB is updating every 5 seconds or so, and if you were able to play the game for 1 hour, your problem could be overheating.try to monitor your temperatures.
Deletei had that issue in the past.
also you need to update your PB manually and add cod4 to the games list in PB

ReplyDeleteThe fix in this post works 100%, but not all systems are the same. Another trick is to plug in your headphones in the headphone jack. After that you can unplug them when the game starts.
ReplyDeleteworked for me, tested it on 3 different configurations/motherboards and worked every time,
Deletedont understand why it does not work for some players.
wow my problem was fixed, thanks a lot...
ReplyDeleteI dont know if people are still on this but i just finished building my gaming rig today and i downloaded cod4 obviously and as soon as i open it it just crashes, i tried doing the stereo mix thing but it just doesnt appear when i show disabled devices. im on win7
